My love of stringed instruments started over 40 years ago. I was first introduced to the sweet mellow sound of a baritone ukulele. Within 30 minutes, I was taught my first song consisting of 3 basic chords, G, C, D7.......it was "Catalina Island". After several months, I longed for a more full sound so I began a lifelong search for the best sounding acoustic guitar.
Simon & Garfunkel, Mama's & Poppas, Peter, Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan and Arlo Gutherie were shaping my taste in music at that time. Before long, I fell in love with the acoustic rock and harmonies of Buffalo Springfield, The Eagles, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
My journey took me through the following brands.....Kay(western style w/F style sound holes),Gibson, Martin D 28,Ovation, Alvarez Yairi DY 90, Takaminie cutaway, Guild, Yamaha Classic, Taylor, and Martin HD 35.
All of these guitars had a special place in my heart, because like a good friend, they gave me pleasure on my musical journey. I even had the privilege of playing a friend's HD-35 12 string for about a year. It was after this time that I started narrowing my search for just the right sound for my ear. Guitars can be very subjective because of the playability, tone and sound and even the volume.
After spending months playing the best handmade guitars, I settled on the guitar that I don't ever want to part with. It's like finding the woman of your dreams that you want to spend the rest of your life with. When you embrace her you never want to let her go. When you hear her voice, you know it immediately and it soothes you. She inspires you and comforts you.
So for me, it's the Martin D-35 acoustic guitar. The 3 piece bracing and back gives this guitar its full rich base notes but none of the higher notes suffer in the mix. The back and sides are made of Indian rosewood and a spruce top. The Martin acoustic is not fancy to look at but to me it leads all others in sound.
It is no wonder that Martin acoustic guitars are chosen by the majority of professional musicians throughout all genres of music for acoustic sound and quality.
If I'm to own just one acoustic guitar, it will be a Martin.
Well, I think its time to start playing....
I wish you the best on the search for your Martin.....enjoy!
